Position Summary

The Construction Department within the Knox City Council Operation Centre currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative Minor Works Officer to assist in the delivery of effective construction and renewal works of Council Infrastructure (Roads, Footpaths, Shared Paths, Drainage, Car Parks, etc).

In this role, you will be working as part of the day labour construction team constructing and replacing Council assets that have or are about to have, reached the end of their service life or new assets are required to be provided. This can be replacing drains, repair of roads, provision of retaining walls, rock placement, replacing concrete, etc. The team will need to ensure that the assets are provided to meet the communities needs and that Council’s obligations are fulfilled in accordance with Council’s Road Management Plan.

Our ideal applicant will have the ability to work as part of a self-managed work team ensuring safe work practices and methods are followed. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate your ability to undertake semi-skilled work which include minor mechanical repairs, basic carpentry, basic concreting, pit building, minor asphalt works and other duties as required.

Applicants will provide excellent customer service to all external and internal customers, work effectively individually and within a team environment, have experience in the use of plant and equipment relevant to the position (trucks, excavation equipment, compaction equipment) to ensure completion of works to agreed standards.

The work environment is primarily outdoors within construction zones and road reserves, therefore working environmental conditions can vary. Additional allowances for outdoor work will be provided.
